A Week at The Beach

Back from a week at the beach. We literally had perfect weather the entire time we were there. Why is it that you get out on the beach and there is a nice breeze and all of a sudden 90 degrees feels pleasant and the minute you step off...a heat wave hits and knocks you down? I wish we had a constant breeze in Atlanta because in my one day back I am already so over the mugginess and humidity.

The beach consisted of reading (I read 3 entire books while there), drinking, listening to music, watching the kids play and a little boogie boarding myself. We did the usual trip in to the "city" of Wilmington. You could compare it on a smaller scale to Charleston or Savannah. A waterfront town with cute shops and restaurants. We found a cool Latin place where we wasted an afternoon away drinking colorful adult beverages. We did a night where we watched "Screen on the Green". I had never taken advantage of this at home but now I am a fan. It was so fun to take your beach chair, cooler, and blankets and enjoy a movie under the stars. Admittedly, I actually liked Night at the Museum 2 and I don't typically enjoy movies geared towards kids. However, there was enough adult humor in it to appeal to the masses. At the same park we also did paddle boats (always look waaaaaaaaaay more fun than they really are). They are a lot of work and go insanely slow. But...for nostalgia purposes and because Tracy's kids had never been on one we did it. To say the least, they weren't all that impressed.

My cousins also opened a small little Burger/HotDog place right in downtown Kure Beach near the pier. It is called "BeachHouse Burgers" and of course I am biased but they did a fabulous job and the building is so cute and brightly painted and so fresh. I am so mad I didn't snap a picture. We enjoyed breakfast there one morning and sad to admit I did of course have to indulge in a Carolina All The Way Cheese Burger. Prepare yourself for the ingredients: burger, cheese, onion, chili...and the best part of all...what I LOVE about Carolina...cole slaw. That's right....even though I was not born in NC my mom's family is from there and I of course have been visiting yearly since I was born so I consider myself an honorary North Carolinian...especially when it comes to my BBQ and my coleslaw. We put coleslaw on hotdogs, BBQ, and hamburgers. Wendy's actually has the "Carolina Burger" on their menu in NC. While not good for you, man it is good for the soul :)

So of course I was sad to leave the beach but more so sad to leave NC and my relatives. I probably won't see them again before the big move and I am guessing it might be Thanksgiving before I get the chance. For anyone who has not been to the NC coast I highly recommend. You can't compare it to Florida or really even GA or SC for that matter.

Home for a week before I head to Annapolis with my friend Kris. So excited to visit a state I have never been to and see a part of the country I haven't really experienced besides a trip to D.C. when I was in 6th grade. Maybe I will even try and check out "Charm City Cakes" in Baltimore :) So addicted to that show, it's sad.
