I am so ready to hit the road to Cali with my mom. I am beyond excited for the week long adventure we will get to experience together. Will we annoy each other? Well...of course! Will she say her infamous "Becca, why are you being so ugly to me?" quote...oh...numerous times I am sure. She will get a speeding ticket as she usually does...I have never met someone with more of a heavy foot than her. Will I play so much Country music that she wants to jump out of the car...you better believe it! Just like I will try and tolerate her "wordless jazz music." ha-- yes, my mom and I are very close and as with most close relationship you do annoy one another at times. But I have to say, I know I have the best mom in the world! She would literally do anything for my brother and I...she drops her own life at the drop of a hat to help us out. After all, she has 3 weeks of vacation this year and 2 of them she will spend with me driving across country and then staying almost a week in San Diego to help me get settled. Yes, she truly deserves a medal. She is AMAZING! Sometimes I think I am so insanely afraid of having kids because I am afraid I will never be half the mother my mom is. She is smart, loving, kind, and looks out for others on so many levels. We had such an amazing childhood with her and she has only made adulthood with us so much more awesome! She even knows how to send text messages and has a Blackberry :) Oh..she is soooo trendy this mother of mine!
So we are slowly getting things checked off the "To Do" list. We have all of our hotel rooms booked for the trip...La Quintas here we come baby! They are pet friendly, actually kinda nice, and not all that expensive. Plus they are in every city we are stopping in so how convenient!
We will spend 2 nights in New Orleans, LA. I have never been despite living 8 hours away my entire life...kind of shocking. My mom has been but pre-Katrina days. We have a hotel in the heart of downtown where we can walk most places and really get a feel for this vibrant city! I am so excited to play tourist for a few days and relax a bit. It was my "request" on the roadtrip and I plan to eat, drink, listen to some cool music, and enjoy the time with my mom.
Next stop will be Dallas, TX. We are trying to keep most days to 8 hours of driving or less. I have been to Dallas and so has my mom...no big deal and nothing we want to see. Plus in August...it will be H-O-T!! We will simply stay the night, get some good rest, and hit the road the next morning.
Amarillo, TX is the next stop. Texas takes about 2 days to drive across unless you are a crazy maniac. Nada to do in Amarillo but again sleep, eat, and avoid the heat!
After Amarillo is Santa Fe, NM...this was my mom's request for the trip. It is a huge artist community, has cool hiking, and the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. We will stay here 2 days as well to take in all the town has to offer and relax by the pool and just enjoy a little down time.
Phoenix, AZ is next..been there...done that. After all, I almost went to college there! Cool town but we don't need to see anything again. So eat, sleep, and rest for the next day we will arrive in sunny SoCal!!!
San Diego here we come! We actually arrive on my mom's 53rd birthday! Again...selfless to spend her birthday in the car with my dog and myself after a week we will surely hate LaQuinta and hate my Pathfinder :) I hope to arrive early enough to show my mom a little of why I love this amazing city and why the Cali Coast is so awesome! We will eat a great dinner of her choice and celebrate our arrival in style!
My mom and I will be on our own for a few days setting up my room and running around like crazy and then my brother will arrive for 3 days! Ours plans are to check out the zoo, Padres game, and enjoy the beaches. Then I will bid farewell to my fam on Saturday and be on my own! Yup...the thought of it is crazy, crazy but the closer it gets the more excited I am!!! Whoever thought I would actually follow through with this crazy plan huh?
