I just absolutely love the month of October. Yes...it is my birthday month so this may or may not have a little something to do with it...but really it is such a great time of the year...whether here in SoCal or back home in Georgia. Typically blue skies, some changing leaves, crisp, cool nights with pleasant daytime temperatures...oh and of course....all things pumpkin! Growing up I was never a huge fan of cake and icing so my traditional birthday "cake" for many years was Pumpkin Bread. Delish! I will be whipping up a loaf or two later this week to take to work and share...Trader Joe's has such a great mix. I also have a yearning for some pumpkin cheesecake...yup...that is probably going to get made as well :) A few more Pumpkin beers and hopefully some Octoberfest beers hanging around and then I will have to face the fact it will be November...sorry...just can't get in the Christmas mood quite yet...I hate how Thanksgiving gets overlooked and the stores are so quick to put up all the Christmas decor. Barf. Dec. 1st is as early as it needs to be out in my opinion.
So while I do love October I can't say that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays...in fact...I don't like it at all really. To me it is a child's holiday...pumpkin carving, candy, and costumes...all cute...if you are like 14 and below. But there is just something about adults in costumes that honestly....weirds me out. It annoys me that girls/females use Halloween as an excuse to dress up as sluts/whores/skanks/strippers and think it is ok. Ewww. No. Take your Daddy issues to a therapist...not one night in October. Adult men dressed as women. No. Thanks. Adult men dressed as random animals like cows, donkeys, turtles etc. Ummmm....again. NO. Call me old fashion, boring etc . but it just isn't for me.
However, this year I was breaking out of my comfort zone and decided to indulge. And by indulge I mean I had a simple, boring, G rated costume. I went to a party with some friends and I was a cat. Ironic since I hate cats and all but it was easy. Leggings, boots, leopard print top, cat tail, ears, and a collar and boom...it was accomplished. A little black nose and some whiskers to complete the overall look. Was I going to win any costume contests? Well no...but that is ok with me! I do enjoy seeing the overall creativity people put into their costumes and I get impressed with what people come up with for sure...but again...adults in costumes = WEIRD.
Saturday I headed out to watch the Georgia/Fla game with some friends...we WON so that is always nice and doesn't happen too often. Then a rooftop to enjoy the beautiful weather, ocean views, and some beers.
Today I headed with a friend to Long Beach, CA for an amazing antique market! I got a great mirror, cute armoire/desk, and a few other cute pieces and accessories. We walked around for hours just roaming, looking, and enjoying another beautiful day. Successful for sure! So happy to have a friend who enjoys interior design as much as I do :) We already have plans to check out another one in November and December! Yay!
Hopefully a calm week coming up of not much going on...that would be nice. A little under the weather with my first cold of the year so some R & R would be good right about now.
November is gonna be a great month as I head to Houston to see Jacob as well as hopefully visit my Uncle who just moved there and then Jake is in town for Thanksgiving festivities! Bring on the Turkey!!
