Well today started off slowly....Roxie and I slept even better than the previous night at our new place. We still woke up early (7am) but I forced myself and her to sleep off and on until around 8:30 or so. We did a walk around the neighborhood and then enjoyed coffee and breakfast with the roommate. Headed off to get my mom and brother at the hotel and dropped them at the San Diego Zoo. I skipped out since I had my job interview to get ready for.
The job interview went FANTASTIC! It was about an hour interview with some typical questions (strengths, weaknesses, past experience etc.) but the lady interviewing me was super nice and I was able to relax and just be myself. She said she had to check on my references but that as long as those went well I should expect to hear from Human Resources within a few days to line up all my tests (TB, fingerprinting, drug test) and I also have to get CPR certified within 30 days of being hired (assuming I get the job). She also told me that a more permanent, higher up position might open up for me as I am a little over qualified for the position I applied for. The typical hours would be 2-6pm and they try and place you as close to your home as possible. They run after school programs in about 50 schools in the San Diego area. It seems like a great organization/nonprofit and I am excited for the possible opportunity of working for them. How nice would it be to have lazy mornings to hang out with the pup, run errands and then head into work after lunch? Yup...pretty ideal. So I am keeping my fingers crossed!!
After the interview my brother and I headed out with Roxie to some cool places in and around my neighborhood of PB (Pacific Beach). We checked out Kate Sessions Park (posted a pic) which has an amazing view of the ocean and downtown sky line in the far distance. You can drink in this park and have your pup...I imagine it will be a favorite spot of mine. We also headed up to Mount Soledad for an even better view!! Not as much space for hanging out as Kate Sessions but killer view and a must see for sure. We then headed to dinner at a recommendation of both my roommate and neighbor...Gringo's Cantina. It was insane how cheap this place was! The joys of being back in a college type town...they had $2 Tecates, $3 Margaritas and $6 dinners (I had a burrito, enchilada, taco, rice and beans)...we stuffed and drank our faces off for $30! We also noticed they do Happy Hour from 11am-7pm!!!! Nice huh? We were able to sit outside which always wins points with me.
Tomorrow we will hit up a few cool spots hopefully like La Jolla, Olde Town and the Gaslamp district. Then...Jake, my brother, and I will head to the Padres game!
Busy, busy but a great way to start out the first week of living in a new place. And slowly...I am learning my way around without having to rely on the GPS.
