Does anyone else remember the George Strait song "Amarillo By Morning"? (Vicki...I know I can count on you for this one!) well it was in my head all day as we drove to Amarillo, TX. I think my mom was about to throw me, my dog, and all my country music out the window by hour 4. As she said, "Becca, honey...maybe we can find a good classic rock station...your country music is really depressing" Oh my mother...our taste in music is so different it is funny...I guess I got the country music from my Grandaddy (her dad).
So we had a lazy morning at the hotel in Dallas as my mom needed to get some work done and I watched a little Lifetime and WE television. We were headed out by noon and arrived in Amarillo around 6:30 or so. The drive was uneventful. Thermometer topped out at 106 and no rain in sight. The landscape was pretty in parts but as you would imagine....Texas is flat and BIG, HUGE, ENORMOUS, GIGANTIC (ok...you get it). I drove most of today as Roxie and my mom are good seat partners. Roxie is quite the lap dog in the car and my mom is such a softie when it comes to her. She has barely spent anytime in the backseat...as was the original plan. We stopped at a rest stop with about 10 signs alarming us to " BE AWARE OF RATTLESNAKES". Needless to say we scarfed down our lunch and bolted! When we arrived in Amarillo we headed to the Cadillac Ranch (as seen on Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood). I attached pictures...basically a bunch of Cadillacs face down in a huge field that people spray paint. It was actually quite crowded and a photo op nonetheless so why not stop, right? We got to the hotel, grabbed some Wendy's and are settled in for another chill night...again...not much to see or do in Amarillo. However, I will say that Amarillo is way bigger than I imagined...it actually has high rises and a skyline.
Tomorrow we might check out a canyon in Amarillo...we saw lots of billboards for it as we headed in and it claimed that it is the 2nd largest canyon in the country...one would assume the Grand Canyon is numero uno :)
Posted a pic of my madre as she needs to make a cameo in the blog. She is so cute! Been chatting with Trace and Kris via text daily and getting updates on life back at work...while I miss them terribly already... can't say I miss the daily grind of work quite yet...glad my summer vacay has been extended for a little bit!
Update tomorrow from Santa Fe, NM (apparently we might see some rain there...something about monsoon season......)
