Day 5: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Well we started the morning off in Amarillo with a sick pup! Rox had been sneezing a lot throughout our drive and it was obvious she wasn't feeling like her normal self. By last night we realized she was really having trouble breathing and hadn't eaten at all or drank. So I googled a vet and we headed over. They were a super sweet elderly Asian couple who gave Roxie much needed TLC. A few shots (she hated them) and some antibiotics and hopefully she will be as good as new. She rode much better today, got some sleep, and my mom and I both seem to think she is already feeling a little better. Having a dog is a lot like having a kid....you never know what will happen.

After that my mom and I headed to check out the Old Route 66 area of Amarillo. We ditched the canyon idea as it was an hour out of our way and we have both seen the Grand Canyon so what's the big deal about the 2nd biggest one anyway...right? :) The Route 66 area was depressing...so much has shut down and it almost looks like a ghost town. We of course took them time to pop in a few cute stores and snap a few photos. Then...off to Santa Fe! Today's drive was a little over 4 hours so it felt like nothing!! It was a scenic drive on Hwy 40 and the landscape was really pretty. We pulled into Santa Fe right before a huge storm blew in. I have never felt winds so strong in my life! A quick break to let the storm blow over and then some sight seeing of course!

I of course "Yelped" Mexican restaurants and stumbled across the top rated one in town! It did not disappoint as I ate ridiculously yummy, spicy, and fresh fish tacos along with fresh housemade guacamole. Did I have a margarita? Come on...if you have to even ask that...we aren't real friends anyway ;)

My friend Dobbin's (Kris's husband but he is my friend as well) best friend, Joel lives in Santa Fe. Dobbin made a call, we swapped numbers and my mom and I met him and another friend for drinks after dinner. They took us to a cool restaraunt in an old house called Ristra. We enjoyed nice conversation, drinks, and the guys ate some awesome food (my mom and I were still too stuffed from our dinner). It is always fun to meet up with a friend of a friend...you obviously have a person in common so you figure you might get along as well! He was super nice, personable, and pointed us in the right direction of a few things we might want to see and do tomorrow.

Off to bed as we will head out on a tour tomorrow morning, walk around the Santa Fe Plaza where there are endless shops etc. and then head to Canyon Rd where there are hundreds of art galleries. According to Joel, tomorrow they will have openings where you walk around viewing art and eating and drinking....ummm...yup...sounds like heaven to me! Santa Fe is a gem so far...great weather...it was in the 80's today and cool at night....no humidity of course.

So far...so good!
