We started our morning off with a 2 hour tour of the city. It was nice because we rode in a small, open air tour bus/wagon. The tour guide had lived in Santa Fe for 40 years and was also a local artist. She was quite informative and had quite the personality...Santa Fe has a lot of interesting characters around and it has made for some great people watching. On the tour we got to see some neat Southwestern architecture (it looks nothing like home!) but if you have ever been to Arizona then you probably know what I am talking about.
After the tour we just walked around the Plaza window shopping, popping in a few stores, and just enjoying the nice weather. Santa Fe is really crowded!! It is a very popular spot for tourists apparently...even in monsoon season! We ate lunch at the Burrito Company (Mexican food..shocker huh?). Then my mom and I split off...she went to the Georgia O'Keefe museum and I wandered around enjoying being outside and taking some pictures.
Back to the hotel for a little rest and of course to check on the pup. She seems to be back to her normal self...sleeping, hogging the bed, and just being spoiled rotten. She is finally getting used to hotel life but I think she will be happy when we arrive and get settled in our new "home." We then checked out Canyon Road and the open galleries. It was cool to walk around, drink some wine, and check out amazing artwork. Artists are always such cool, unique people...I am such a wannabe...even thought about going to SCAD when I was in high school...I now realize most artists have more talent in their pinky than I do in my entire body! ha---but it's fun to pretend I have skills.
We were both so stuffed from our late lunch that we opted out of dinner tonight. Eating on the road can be a lot of fun but it also gets old...plus Santa Fe is super expensive and so was New Orleans. Guess I better get used to it as San Diego is only more $$$$$$!!!!
The good news is I got another call from the non profit company Say San Diego that I am interested in working for. They left a message saying they want to set up an interview for next week! That will be 2 interviews in my first week of arriving....very exciting!!! This is my ideal job as it is from 2pm-6pm. It's the kind of job I said I wanted to do when I got to Cali...no stress, no 9-5 but still working with kids. We shall see....
Update tomorrow from Phoenix where today it was 108!!! Ugh...not looking forward to the nearly 8 hour drive there in the heat. So ready to be out of the car and in San Diego...I will dread driving for a long, long time after this journey!
****Also exciting...my Gran called a few days ago and she and my Aunt Emily (NC Aunt with beach houses) have already purchased their plane tickets for October 5th-12th! They, as far as I know, will be my first visitors and be there for my birthday! I have said it before...I have the coolest, best, most wonderful Gran around :) *****
