Well it was another picture perfect day here in SoCal (by the way...all that stands for is Southern California) a popular expression out here. It was sunny and 79 today. I know, I am a little obsessed with the weather but seeing how it was one of the main reasons I moved out here...I couldn't be happier! My mom and I ate lunch outside again today...probably one of my favorite things to do (eat outside...but probably eat in general. ha)
We started our morning off with taking Roxie to "Dog Beach". This is about 5-10 minutes from my apartment in a community called Ocean Beach. It is so cool because you can have your dog off the leash and they are free to roam and run with other dogs and play in the ocean. She did extremely well and it was great exercise for her. I imagine we will become frequent visitors to this place. It has ample parking which is a rarity around here.
That brings me to my blog title...in my few days here I have come to realize a few things that will take getting used to. They are:
1) smaller parking lots, smaller parking spaces, smaller everything! My car feels enormous out here but I will learn to navigate it around
2) No air conditioning. That's right. You read that correctly. Now granted it is cool here and no humidity but I am soooo hot natured that I still like my A.C. cranking...ceiling fans are in the apartment as well as other fans and we leave all the windows open...it's fine but again...I wish we had A.C.
3)No real sweet tea....I did discover green tea sweetened with honey isn't too bad!
4)Living in an apartment again...it reminds me of college and that is fine but it will just take getting used to. However, I think meeting people might be easier. Already met my next door neighbor who has a cute new puppy named Duncan.
5) Parallel parking. I just avoid it at this point and luckily we have one parking spot for our place that we will rotate between us but eventually I will have to learn. Boo.
6) So far the Target sucks (even if it is 2 stories) and TJ Maxx Homegoods is 30 minutes away...good for my wallet but not for my mental health.
I am sure there will be more to adjust to but these are what I have noticed in my first few days.
My mattress got delivered and my bedroom is looking pretty good. I will actually stay at my apartment tonight...alone. My roommate is gone for work up near L.A. until tomorrow afternoon. I still need a few things for my room like lamps, bookshelf, and a nightstand but it is definitely livable.
My mom and I went to dinner with Jake. We went to a cool, authentic Italian place in PB (Pacific Beach...my neighborhood) called Mamma Mia. We all enjoyed lots of wine, great bread, and yummy pasta dishes and of course...great conversation! It was so nice to see Jake and not be a "visitor" but just another local friend :) As much as I am excited to meet new people having one of my oldest and closest friends in the same city makes the move a lot easier.
In for the night at the new apartment and up bright and early for my first interview tomorrow. I am insanely nervous bc I haven't been on an interview in over 3 years and am so tired from our travels I am afraid I might not be in the right mind frame. However, it is good experience and worth a shot! After the interview is lunch with my step dad's Aunt and Uncle and then off to the airport to pick up my brother. After these 2 weeks of non stop activity...I will welcome a break and some laziness next week.
